Cake Batter Detox

Hello there!!  I hope everyone had/is having a wonderful holiday.  My Christmas was amazing and I'm so grateful that I was able to spend it with the people I love.

That being said, now it's time to get back to my normal schedule of healthy eats - a so called detox if you will.  I will be the first to admit that when you start eating not so healthy food, the healthy food you love starts to sound less appetizing.  Cookies are usually an every few months thing for me and lately they have turned into a few a day thing - not so good.  Today, I'm going cookie free.. but unfortunately, I can't quite squash that cookie craving.  So I created this smoothie to pump some good things into my body - fruit, omega 3's, calcium - while giving into my sweetness craving.  The sprinkles were just cute, don't judge. 

While I don't believe in detox diets - your liver and kidneys are pretty efficient - I do believe that significantly cleaning up your diet improves your health.  Plus, you would be amazed at how much better you will feel after a week.  It's important though to take baby steps in the direction of good health so that the changes are maintainable.  You don't need to go to extremes - in fact, going to extremes can do more damage than good.  Have you ever heard the horror stories of detox diets? 

My "detox" will be cutting out excess sugar, eating more fish, drinking more green tea and eating at least 5+ servings of fruits and vegetables per day.  Your "detox" could include eliminating fast food and trying to eat 2-3 servings of vegetables per day if you're at 0... or it could be eliminating pop (yes, I am saying ALL pop and that includes diet - you wouldn't fill your cars gas tank with water would you?)  Now that the holidays are over, we can all make better choices for our health.  For more help, see this post :)

Now, onto the smoothie! Mmmmmm.

Cake Batter Smoothie


1 frozen banana
1 cup soy milk
1 tbsp cashew butter or this
2 tbsp ground flaxseed
1/4 tsp xantham gum
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp sprinkles of your choice

1. Combine ingredients and blend on high until smooth.
2. Toss in sprinkles :)
3. Top with a few more sprinkles and if you are feeling daring fat-free whipped cream or tru-whip.

I love the sprinkles... sooo cute :)
